As with all of our furniture it's sanded smooth with no rough edges and available in a variety of finishes.
Please see the additional product images for dimensions, width will be as per your selection. The back is recessed so the back of the unit is flat, and screwed in place, not tacked, so it won't come off if anything is pushed against it.
